Episode #40 with Hayley Carlson & Michael Nemeth

The SES Solar Co-operative is the first renewable energy co-operative in Saskatchewan.  Based out of Saskatoon, the SES Solar Co-operative has created a legal structure,  set of bylaws, and a business model that can then be followed  and modified by future renewable power co-operatives. The Co-operative’s goal is to see dozens of renewable power co-operatives across our province.

The SES Solar Co-operative is led by a board of sustainable energy engineers, business leaders, and community builders, including Michael Nemeth and Hayley Carlson.

Hayley Carlson has been a member of the SES Solar Co-operative since 2016, and currently serves on its Board of Directors as Chair of the Participation and Learning Committee. She is also President of the Saskatchewan Environmental Society. She works as a policy analyst with Prairies Economic Development Canada.

Michael Nemeth is the vice president of the co-operative, and lives in Saskatoon with his adventure partner Shannon Dyck and son, Aven. Designing heating, cooling and ventilation systems for all types of buildings, he's been consulting in mechanical engineering since 2006. In 2013, Michael started Bright Buildings to help others build to the Passive House standard, an international low energy building standard leading to 90% space heating energy savings.
