Episode #1 - Environmental education and intersectional sustainability with Megan Van Buskirk
“It really comes down to how we relate to each other, and we have a lot to learn from Indigenous peoples” - Megan Van Buskirk
I grew up in Saskatchewan on Treaty 6 land (the traditional territory of the Nêhiyawak Peoples and Homeland of the Métis Nation), spending much of my time outdoors. From canoeing the Churchill River to backpacking through the Grasslands, I gained an appreciation for the more-than-human world and a deep understanding of its importance. As a passionate grassroots organizer, I have a demonstrated history of community involvement through organizations advocating for environmental protections. I have also been involved with the Girl Guides of Canada for nearly 25 years. With two undergraduate environmental studies degrees in hand, I have recently started a graduate degree in environmental education and communications, while concurrently working as the Operations & Outreach Manager for the Saskatchewan Environmental Society. When not working in solidarity, I love biking, reading, and taking care of my delightful collection of plants.
